Fines for non-uniform auto drivers

On expiry of the deadline set for auto-rickshaw drivers to wear uniforms, the traffic police on Friday collected fines from errant auto drivers for not adhering to the directive during inspection drive here.

Superintendent of police Chandrakishor Mina had instructed almost 15 days ago to all auto drivers to wear uniform from July 6.

A press note issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) said that it was found today that most of the rickshaw drivers did not wear the uniform despite it having been made compulsory. Following which, the traffic police penalised them and those who refused to pay the penalty, their rickshaws were taken to the Vazirabad police station and parked.

The Nanded District Autorickshaw Union protested the move and said that the RTO could not compel auto drivers or owners to wear uniform.
